The SIA Door Supervisor Course suits most learners because it covers every duty a Security Guard performs and adds venues that serve alcohol. Match the course to the venues you want to work in and the hours you want to work.

Nightclubs, bars, and festivals need a Door Supervisor Licence. Offices, warehouses, retail parks, and residential buildings need a Security Guard Licence. Control rooms and public space camera monitoring need a CCTV Operator Licence.

An SIA Approved Training Provider is a training centre authorised to deliver SIA courses and regulated assessments. Approved providers confirm learner identity, verify entry requirements including first aid certification and English language proficiency, and submit assessment paperwork for marking.

A licence-linked SIA qualification is a regulated qualification recognised by the SIA as meeting the training requirements for a specific security licence under the Private Security Industry Act 2001.

Completing a qualification is the only pathway to an SIA licence. There is no route to an SIA licence through experience alone. The Door Supervisor, Security Guard, and CCTV Operator courses each lead to a Level 2 Award in their respective sectors. The Close Protection course leads to a Level 3 Certificate. First Aid and Licence Fees

• EFAW booked as an add-on with any SIA course: £75.00
• EFAW booked on its own: £99.99

A Door Supervisor pays £375 for the course, £75 for the EFAW add-on, and £204 for the licence, giving a total of £654. Your first resit is free. Further resits cost £80 per paper.

SIA Badge Training takes 1 to 21 days depending on the licence you apply for.

• Security Guard Refresher: 1 day.
• Door Supervisor Refresher: 2 days.
• CCTV Operator: 3 days. Includes 22 hours of classroom learning.

• Close Protection: 16 to 21 days. Requires a minimum of 140 hours of intensive training.

Mandatory Extra Time

Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) adds 1 full day to your training. You complete this before your Door Supervisor or Security Guard course. Self-study adds 3 to 8 hours of mandatory e-learning at home before your classroom course begins.

There are 5 entry requirements for SIA Training:

Yes, you need EFAW or an equivalent certificate before SIA Training. Add EFAW to your SIA course booking on My Badge for £75 if you do not already hold one. EFAW booked on its own costs £99.99.

You apply for an SIA licence before you undertake licensable security work. After course completion, your exam results arrive in 7 to 10 working days. You then create an account on the SIA portal to submit your application.

The SIA verifies everything on their site, including ID checks, criminal background checks, and right-to-work checks. Once approved, you receive your SIA licence and can begin working in licensed security roles.
